Gulmohar

For those who have heard about IITB, (Who hasn't). ..there is a beautiful restaurant inside the campus called "Gulmohar". It is not the best but definitely value for money when it comes to restrained pockets of IIT junta.
In the rarified and closed academic society of IIT, this is the upscale version ..the "ritz" of students. It is one of those places where you get your sweetheart(who is most likely in IIT too) to dinner if you reaally reaaaly reaally are serious about "pataoing " her. She will appreciate what it means to be in Gulmohar when you could have given her a choice of hostel 8 or 11 ka khaana.
Also if you really want to "freak" out ..(one must realise that freaking out means khaana and daaru at cheapest rates ) ...minus the daaru bit..Gulmohar is the place.
Or if you want some nice food and have it without your hostel mates' spoon intruding in the way of your thaali..this is THE place..

I go there because of neither of the above reasons..I go there because it serves the best "crispy Chicken" in powai. And I am thankfull that I have a freind who has the same gastronomic taste as me..! Apart from the fav Crispy Chicken..we are fans of the Scheazwan Triple Fried rice..yummy.
Yesterday we visited Gulmohar and tried out the Lemon Coriander Chicken Soup ..It was great ...while i feel there should have been a bit more of lemon in it. But the aroma was perfect and like every great soup ..we could taste every separate texture of Lemon and Coriander.I feel that the chicken shredded was a spoilsport in the soup...It did not have the taste of either Lemon or coriander ..and i would have preferred a cream of chicken rather than the chicken shreds . Another thing that puts me off in a clear coup are huge debris of green corriander leaves floating around. THT is not done. Either chop it into teeny weeny peices or do not put it at all....DO u put chunks of lemon just because its a lemon soup?
The Shezwan Triple was nice but a shade lower than the Shezwan we generally expect at Gulmohar. The thing that spoiled it was Over cooking. Once the rice starts to stick to each other..u can kiss a good rice dish goodbye. But yes the juices were correct and it was served in time..So I forgive the "Sticky Rice " bit..
We were so full that we skipped the dessert but if you are really into desert ..try the brownie or better still head outside IIT to "Laxmi" for a bite of the bestest Sundae at lowest price..

All in all a great meal for 200 bucks..(in mumbai...200 ..!!!) . Wat else could an IITian ask for...
